When my friend KRPTK first approached us to play music, he was targeting some small festival venues to play. Due to the unforeseen COVID-19 pandemic, all of those plans had been derailed. Fortunately, he was able to pivot to an online presence; for the band, that resulted in our involvement in some music videos.

Two years later, we finally got the call to headline for a night at the 626 Night Market! I ended up signing on to play bass, run our backing tracks, and mix monitors.

In order to run monitors, I pulled out the Aphex 188 8-channel preamp that I had purchased from Phil Ramone’s estate not long ago. Apparently, he had ordered several racks full of these units and requested Aphex to move the power supply out of each unit in an effort to further bring down the noise floor. This resulted in handmade wall-warts with custom multipin connectors connecting the various DC board outputs to the rest of the rack unit.

Rather than being placed inside of the preamp, all of the DC inputs were wired out...
...via this connection...
...and placed here.

While this was a unique piece of history, I wanted something a little more robust than the mutipin connector held in with loose friction. I ended up moving the PSU back into the rack unit and re-connecting the headers in the wall-wart back to the pins on the main board.
